These teenagers live in the rural areas surrounding the small town of Manguzi in the most North-Eastern corner of South Africa. They came to a sleep-away camp that provides HIV/AIDS education through a soccer based curriculum. It was amazing to watch them gradually become more comfortable and open with their peers as the week progressed- these kids have some incredible personalities. They decided the umbrella needed to be in the picture. The newspaper-covered balloons was the American camp leaders’ attempt at showing the kids piñatas. Due to uncooperative weather the paiper-mache never dried, leaving the kids a little confused about the whole idea, but they ran with it anyways.
